Central Park Conservancy

Central Park Conservancy is the steward of Central Park, the City’s 843-acre iconic greenspace and a vital asset to the more than 42 million visitors who visit it each year. The City of New York has bestowed the Conservancy with the comprehensive day-to-day care and meticulous preservation of this treasured public space, which requires the expertise and discipline we’ve honed over 40 years. More than 300 Conservancy staff members maintain the Park’s landscape, structures, and infrastructure, including horticulture, tree and turf care, litter management, visitor services, and other essential needs. This is due to the usage, which results in wear and tear. The Conservancy is dedicated to safeguarding the public’s interests and providing the oversight and expertise needed to continue this exceptional environment for all. We are funded mostly by private donations, spending around $78 million each year. This money is dedicated solely to Central Park’s protection and improvement. This allows the City of New York’s Department of Parks and Recreation to spend nearly its entire budget on other parks. Still, this investment is essential as it supports more than $1 billion in economic activity and 5,000 local jobs each year—a real partnership with the City and people of New York.
