Van Duyn Dodge and W. Donald Fletcher first encountered each other when both were consultants on a San Francisco mayoral race. Both of them believed in Theodore Roosevelt's progressive view of politics and had many long discussions on how politics and government might be made better. It didn't take long for them to realize that they needed to create a new group of leaders to make the real difference they sought. This experience was the inspiration for their educational innovation vision. On October 12, 1942, the Coro Foundation was born. Coro's work has evolved and expanded over the years to include programs for young participants, college-educated professionals, and mid-career workers. Our alumni community is committed to creating the future that Coro leaders envisioned, and this idea has been put into effect at Coro New York since 1984. With nearly 3000 alumni, we have a diverse community collaborating to shape a more inclusive, effective society.
