Marymount Manhattan College

Marymount Manhattan College traces its roots back to 1936 when the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary started it as a college for women. The College is the New York City branch of Marymount College Tarrytown. In 1948, the College was established on 71st Street, and it started conferring four-year bachelor’s degrees. The first MMC graduating class was in 1950. In 1961, MMC was granted an absolute charter, and it became an autonomous college that awarded baccalaureate degrees (Marymount Manhattan College, 2022). MMC is firmly committed to its founding vision. It has a considerable history of reaching out to various communities interested in higher education, and it has become a nonsectarian and nonsectarian independent urban coeducational liberal arts college.
