We started our journey in the 1890s as a family business. Our founders, Frederic, and Mary Martin, would not give up the idea of starting their own business. They met in California during the Gold Rush, where Frederic wanted to find his fortune. Unfortunately, the only riches they found there were the Oriental Rugs their friend owned and got them to clean for him. They moved back to Columbus and had children to start their own family and business. As the company grew, so did the family. Paulus Martin, their child, joined the company in 1925. He used the advanced technology that was present at that time to incorporate it into his cleaning techniques, which he had learned from his mother when he was a child. This mixture of old and new methods made Martin Carpet Cleaning successful. In 1967, Paulus' sons Paul and John graduated from The Ohio State University and joined the company. They realized that in-home carpet cleaning was crucial after the popularity of wall-to-wall carpets increased in the 1970s. They incorporated new techniques into their washing system, as well as the best modern washing equipment.
