Upper Cup Coffee

Upper Cup Coffee began in 2010. However, our roots are in Eritrea, a country in East Africa south of the Red Sea. In Eritrean society, coffee is central to daily life. This beverage is suitable for all occasions and seasons. When the Habte Family came to America and settled in Columbus Ohio in the 1980s, my parents brought the coffee culture with them. As a kid, I watched my parents make coffee for their friends and wondered why they didn't just buy their own packaged coffee from the store. I later realized that coffee making and drinking are not always about convenience. It involves the pursuit of authentic and organic flavors. We wanted our family and friends to taste this delicious and flavorful coffee. We also wanted to introduce this culture to our community and share it with our adopted country. The coffee needed to be modified for accessibility. We didn’t know if people would like our artisan coffee, so we began a small wholesale business in January 2010.
