Our tourism website states that Pittsburgh, historically known as "Paris of Appalachia," is the third most livable city in the United States according to Hubwallet. Pittsburgh was also named one of the six U.S. cities on the list of world's liveable city. Pittsburgh's ranking as the top city in America for empty-nesters and job-seeking millennials is not surprising. Is it surprising that Oakland, a Pittsburgh neighbourhood with a medical, research and university powerhouse, will receive 1.9 billion dollars of investment in the next three-year period? No, Not at all. Oakland Business Improvement District and InnovatePGH joined forces with stakeholders from the city and the county two years ago to explore ways of changing the look and feel of Oakland's main street. They thought that the key was to increase opportunities for small businesses. UPMC was the key location. 3608 Forbes Avenue is a 1,000-square-foot storefront that was recently vacated from a yoga studio. It's also near many Oakland restaurants, including Roots Natural Kitchen and Chipolte. Front Studio created the Versace color scheme that gave the building its vibrant flavor. It also set the scene for the retail project. After the initial call, the search was on for a firm that would be able to transform the old Yoga space into a retail incubator to help small business recover from the effects of the pandemic. ULEADx, a company selected from a wide range of applications, was tasked with filling up the space with a mixture of artists, makers and creatives. They wanted to hire local talent and find quality products, but most importantly, they wanted to create a cool interior. The ULEADx Team researched the area to identify the perfect mix of creatives, artists and makers who could not only be vendors but also grow into business empires. ULEAD brought ARGYLE Studio artists who love their work and put in countless hours to create, select and make wonderful products. Many of these items are handcrafted and beautifully designed.
