Ice House Studios, located at 100 43rd St. 100 43rd St. in Lawrenceville, PA, offers 32 separate artist studios and artist-led organizations that have been set up to create affordable workspaces for artists and makers. The studios are managed by Lawrenceville Corporation and owned by Ice Factory Limited Partnership. opened thirteen years ago. When we planned to construct the building, that part of Lawrenceville was in distress because the building had long been vacant. Nevertheless, it has since attracted numerous artists and contributed to the growth of Lawrenceville. Residents were in full support of the Ice House Artist Studios who had been repurposed a vacant building and attracted new artists and businesses to the neighborhood. Additionally, in late 2000, The National Park Service included the property in the National Register of Historic Places. The property is a 35,000 sq. ft. buildingconstructed by the Consolidated Ice Company in 1911. However, it was rarely used in the second half of the century. The building was a community eyesore. boarded up windows and dilapidated state. Artists and Cities acquired an option to buy the property in may 1999. Construction began in October 2000, and the project was completed in May 2001. The building has a floor area of 44,000 SF, an 9,000 sq. ft. increase from its previous size. Our design increased the building's usable size by approximately 9,000 sq. ft. 427 to 1,976 sq. ft.-sized, with 427 sq. ft. being the smallest and 1,976 sq. ft. being the largest. Ice House Studios offers affordable studio space for makers and artists. The Ice_FACTORY current owner of the studios and the Lawrenceville Corporation manages the 30 artists and artist-led venues.
