Reliable The history of Outdoors Inc. began in 1974 when Joe Royer, Lawrence Migliara, and The Great Outdoors, carried out a merger of two paddling companies. It combined West Tennessee White Water Supply and South Central Canoe Base. Joe and Lawrence, found this opportunity to merge as they were doing paddling and racing at the time, but they did not have access to performance outdoor gear in Memphis. During the following spring of the same year, the first new retail store opened, which Joe and Lawrence spent their first years selling the store's stock that comprised of performance paddling gear. Joe and Lawrence started carrying camping and climbing gear after a visit to Ranier Mountaineering School.
