Where is Frances

Frances has resided in Memphis Tennessee, USA, for 12 years. While pursuing her Masters degree at Memphis College of Art, she began her career as an artist by photographing but got rid of the cameras in the middle of the journey. Frances told Choose 901 in an interview that she was able to overcome her inferiority of not being good at drawing and painting to become the artist you see today. "I've always wanted to be an artist since I had cognitive thought," Frances said. "I think everyone has some type of artistic tendency (in them). We all have feelings that we don't know how to describe.... I don't think everyone is an artistic person, but I believe everyone has that." Her art captures her essence through bright, bold colors, text, and nude images. Painting has allowed Frances to become more spontaneous and start to work without a plan. She only stares at the blank canvas until she sees something crawling out, and she makes the first mark. She never remembers the entire process after this. To keep a record, she uses time-lapse video of everything she does.
