Teach Your Child the Beauty of Music and Rhythm at The Shirley McPhail School of Dance. The Shirley McPhail School of Dance in Northwest Hills has been "keeping Austin dancing" for over 40 years. We recently won the title of Best Dance School for 2020 at the Austin American Statesman Choice Awards. Our professional staff, friendly atmosphere, and Northwest Hills location have taught thousands of dancers to dance. Many of them have come back, bringing their own children or grandchildren. There are many kinds of dances to pick from. Twinkle Tots is a program for toddlers to the youngest kids. In a friendly, nurturing setting, children acquire the basic principles of dance and music. Combination classes are available for children aged three to five and those with no previous dance experience. Ballet, jazz, tap, hip-hop, lyrical, or musical theatre are all possibilities. Tap—adults from advanced to beginner are welcome (all levels). Jazz, ballet, and contemporary (all levels) provide a relaxed, encouraging setting where adults may study dance. With a focus on small groups and personal attention, we cater to all ability levels. The music and technique provide thrilling difficulties. Classes for students aged nine and up feature ballet, jazz, and contemporary dance. Dancers are introduced to the basics of barre work and the center, as well as the French terminology that serves as the dance's universal language. Correct placement, body alignment, and poise are emphasized.
