Ash Studios

Ash Studios was founded to address the racial segregation and political disempowerment of many Dallas residents. It proposes to create a space for effective engagement and mutual respect in the city, to foster intergenerational and interracial dialogue for citizens and creatives, to increase public voices in public life and to provide economic opportunities for both cultural production and cultural consumption. Ash Studios  collaboration is a 22,000 square foot artist-owned studio, a 22,000 sq ft lot with a sculpture and paint-ready shed, a two-story small building with gallery and office potential, and additional outdoor sculpture garden. Critical to the Ash Studios vision are the equal sides, the realization that the project will be massive and high-impact. The site lies between East Dallas, traditionally Latino, and South Dallas, traditionally Black; however, 12,000 sq. feet remains unused. This site is a place that sincerely mixes the community and the design because of the vast amount of land available today. This way, the space's potential is fully realized, and it is entirely integrated into the neighborhood. The physical space is only a part of the collective project of Ash Studios. However, these practices directly create a nexus of art, ideas, and cultural interchange across racial, social classes and economic variables. The goal is to want Ash Studios to stand for a location where people can confront "the complicated connections between art and culture," where we can think about our art and artistic practices but the society in general. The studio team believes that local artists and local residents can be a source of cultural production, sharing strategies and ideas to improve things in a gradual but sustainable way to create a greater sense of awe and amazement at the world.
