Sunset Art Studios

Sunset Art Studios is a non-profit art organization in Dallas, located at 105 N. Broadway. We work with a focus on social practice. We operate an artist-run space, residency, and gallery. Our work is based on the art of object-making to empower others. We are building sustainable systems for celebratory inclusion, support, and community. Sunset Art Studios has expanded the accessibility of Southern Dallas' arts since May 2016, with local partnerships. The co-directors (Emily Riggert & Rachel Rushing) do this by providing studio space for artists from marginalized communities and offering free programming in community arts. The goal is to lower geographic and socio-economic barriers to art and engagement, making it more accessible to all. Our organization is continuously changing and growing. All of its work is based on a conscious examination of systemic exclusions and the importance of both exploring and resisting them in the arts. The strategy to combat traditional art world hegemony (white supremacy, patriarchy) includes an inclusive artist sustainability program and residency program.
