About this business

Hi, my name is Cristy Delgado and I've been helping Southwest dogs and their owners for over five years. In my experience, the key to training is to embrace canine body language and characteristics. This love needs to be between the owner and the dog. At Canine Domain, we train dogs to be social and polite. We help owners understand their consistent behavior. My degree in Biological Sciences made me a vet tech and a volunteer with many rescue dogs. After friends and relatives requested help, I trained my four huskies. Those moments determined my future. My journey into dog training started when I achieved a Dog Trainer certification by the Animal Behaviour College in July 2015. Since then, I have acquired more knowledge by attending national and international seminars, from which I apply the lessons. I was helping my clients with training their dogs and I was finding a lot of dogs afraid of other dogs, and their owners didn't understand that their dogs could be controlled. I also found many "mischievous" or "disorderly" dogs that were already removed from other daycare facilities for causing hassles with the other dogs. Then, I realized that there was no place for them to learn how to interact properly and that it is very important. To help dogs, I had to have a safe place for my clients to bring their dogs that were insecure, aggressive, or problematic so that I could apply what I had learned. That's when I had the idea of creating Canine Domain in September 2018. In my opinion, this place does not just offer dog training, but it also offers many other services that can be catered to whatever my clients need. Simultaneously, additional courses from local trainers will be available. My dogs, Railey, and Kovu, are therapy dogs created to train my clients' dogs with significant issues. I helped them overcome their fears by making them more comfortable with other dogs. We empower them to be confident and calm. This way, it is faster to socialize them with other dogs and fix their behavior issues. This enables the client not to focus on the problem.Petting a dog in a vulnerable position creates a bond between a pet human and their owner and a pet human, and above all it establishes a great community and lifestyle and strengthens the relationship. My clients learn from what I have learned. It is amazing to watch the dog-owner bond interacting by seeing how the dog owner associates with their dog. Together, they make a happier, healthier, and more balanced lifestyle that is going strong.

I’m sharing this story because I don’t want the same thing to happen to anyone else. I was told the behaviors I was noticing and the regression in training was “her age” and “nothing to worry about”.. but it wasn’t. On 8/20/2024 my dog was “accidentally” sent home with an electric shock collar around her neck. They had been using a bark collar that uses electronic stimulation to keep my dog from barking in the kennel. They had been using this collar for weeks without my permission. In the contract I signed at the beginning of daycare, they advertise the use of corrective tools such as “water bottles, compressed air, and crops.” An e collar can be very damaging to the dog. It can cause the dog to be scarred. It can cause the dog to shut down. I never would’ve approved this, because in the wrong hands can be detrimental to the dog. I noticed about 4 visits ago that my dog didn’t want to go into the facility anymore. They had to leash her and physically drag her in. There have been multiple occasions where she was picked up stressed and full of anxiety. The fur on her neck has thinned. We’ve seen a regression in training and her excitedness to work. I asked about how she was doing every couple times I would drop her off. They would always say she’s doing good. They had ample opportunity to speak to me about this, and chose not to. They also made sure to take the collar off in all of the videos of her in the facility. It feels very intentionally hidden from me. At this time there have been no efforts made to rectify the situation. I guess the moral of the story is be careful who you let watch your dogs. Even the ones who seem trust worthy are in fact not.. and please listen to your dog.
