The IEC El Paso Chapter, A Texas Non-Profit Corporation, was founded as a result of a small group of electrical contractors in El Paso meeting in 1968. Their objective was to create an association of independent emergency electricians that would work together as a unified force on a national level. The Chapter became affiliated with the Independent Electrical Contractors (IEC) in 1984 and was officially recognized. It then became known as the Independent Electrical Contractors, El Paso Chapter, A Texas Non-Profit Corporation. The primary IEC channels include a state association, local chapters, and regional chapters. The national office and headquarters are located in Alexandria, Virginia. We currently represent more than 3,000 merit-shop electrical contractors and more than 100,000 employees of those companies. The IEC Political Action Committee and the IEC National office work tirelessly to fight legislation that would hurt electrical contractors and to ensure the industry's future at all levels. With the establishment of local apprenticeships and training programs, our organization has been able to give back to the industry and promote safety in electrical construction.
