Whole Earth Provision Co.

Founded in 1970 in Dallas, Texas, Whole Earth Provision Co. was the brainchild of University of Texas at Austin graduates Jack Jones and Linda Jones. Linda was an instructor teaching math at Dallas ISD, while Jack was an interior designer at the time, working for a furniture business. Jack and Linda were feeling a bit homesick for Austin and thinking they had some decisions to make. In the late 1960s and early '70s, people were beginning to challenge the ethics, political beliefs, and social norms of previous generations and questioning how their parents had lived. They were also looking for alternative methods to make money. Whole Earth was conceived when Jack and Linda wondered aloud whether they could open a shop that lived the ideas of the recently introduced Whole Earth Catalog.
