When my then-husband asked me for a divorce in 2019, I knew I needed an exceptional lawyer that I could trust to serve as my advocate for what would become years of protracted litigation. I interviewed five top lawyers from across Northern Virginia and quickly decided on Maryse. Because we routinely prevail, my litigious ex-husband continues to drag me back to court. She has charged me over $8,000 and did not produce any of the paperwork necessary for trial that she said she would be on top of to produce during our initial consultation, as the 90 day deadline was then a month away. In our initial consult she also told me that she would give me a warning when my retainer was running low and would not charge me over that amount of my initial fee without warning me first, so that I didn't have a surprise bill. During the time she was my lawyer she sided with my soon to be ex-husband and advocated his position, pressuring me saying that I had to listen to her and to him. Based off of her failure to prepare for trial and pressuring me to agree with my ex-husband I let her go. She then informed me that she had spent all of the retainer without preparing me for trial, failing to subpoena records that I needed financially. It was a few days away from the deadline, so there was no chance and no effort had been put forth to get the documents. Now, I have a new lawyer who I had to pay to re-review my files and case and I will likely have to get my case continued maybe even to the New Year, which is very costly for me. The one month that Ms. Allen represented me set my case back significantly and I would have been in a better position if I had hired someone else. The experience has been nothing but disappointing, to the point that I am left in worse condition than before the entire ordeal began. I cannot fathom why another lawyer, Mary Gray Franklin, would retain her services after spending over $10,000 on legal fees with her and receiving nothing in return. Her treatment towards me, her client, has been nothing but deceitful and misleading. She forced me into a position that has brought additional trauma and despair to my life. I have never experienced such unprofessionalism and I am hurt that the legal system would permit such corrupt behavior.
