Over fourteen years of Assembly Barbershop's history and half a continent, let's go back to Spooner, Wisconsin, where it all started. My great-grandfather Shorty Essick was an orphan and moved from Pennsylvania to Spooner after marrying Mary. Although the timeframe is unknown, Shorty and Mary had seven children. The 1910 fire ruined his business, and because he didn't have enough money to repair it, Shorty became a railroad dispatcher. John, Shorty's grandpa (my grandpa), was a Rebel Without a Cause. There are many stories, but I remember him being shot after he stole some watermelon from a farmer's fields. Shorty cared more about John than he was. He convinced John to become a barber after failing high school several times. John lived with his wife Jacque in Spooner as a barber. His family fell apart, and he loved the local teacher. The teacher moved to Seattle for work. John, without Jacque or anyone else knowing, chased his teacher on dirt roads, his 1939 V8 convertible from Spooner to Seattle. His parents didn't like him, so they told him never to come back. John was homeless and unemployed in a small town. World War II was raging on, and he couldn't enlist and lived as a boarder in Kirkland. He worked at the Houghton Shipyard and Milwaukee Railroad. When times were hard, he used to tell my father and me stories about killing pigeons. He met Grandma Trianon Ballroom at 3rd and Wall during a function when my father was born. The long commutes on the Seattle Ferry and railroads were hard on his family. Grandpa John went back to barbering when Grandma loaned him the money to purchase a shop at the Port of Embarkation on Pier 36. The space is now occupied by the Assembly Hotel. He was the primary breadwinner for his family. A suitable shop was important. The shop was close to Vito’s on Madison, a small space available to him. There are still handbill rooms in hotels and doctors' offices near the shop. When you enter Assembly's door today, you see my father's high school barbershop sign and my grandad's barber pole hanging on the entrance. Grandpa inspired me, not just in barbering. School wasn’t something I was good at, and I was causing a lot of trouble in my adult years. He saw my future was in jeopardy, and he offered to fund my technical school education. I had two options; being an electrician or a plumber. Since I sucked at math, I wasn't going to be an electrician. For plumbing, I had experience fixing drains at my dad's house, so it sounded like the best deal. Barber school was the last option since it looked like I wasn’t attending my classes. Unfortunately, I didn’t complete barber school. I worked for a while in various barbershops after high school. Clean Cut on James Street was where I spent most of my time before moving to Squire Barbershop for a long time. Barbering saved my life. I am very passionate about my job and my clients; that's why I wake up eagerly every morning. I have always wanted to open my shop since I was a child. My barbers have been fantastic. They are not only professional but also good-natured. Come and be part of our history. We are proud of us.

The reviews for Assembly, a barber shop, are overwhelmingly positive with several them highlighting the friendly staff providing attentive service that prioritizes cleanliness and classic cuts. Clients appreciate the quality haircuts they receive from skilled barbers, Calving and Nate the majority of the reviews underscore how attentive they have to detail which is beneficial while having a conversation with each other. The shop has a distinct vintage look; it is not surprised to spot an antique chair, and every section of the shop looks polished, which is a client's feeling at home in Assembly. Moreover, clients who left out of satisfaction recommend Assembly, so it would need you to book an appointment weeks in advance to have Chris to cut your hair. That way, the need for every person to come back for that great service is implemented. The number of times their service has been in high demand, so I recommend calling them and making an appointment because Barber shops are not my ideal places to visit for my haircuts. The clients always have talks of the nostalgia type because of the good work. It is also easy to book an appointment at Assembly, with their online booking system being easier to use, and every barbershop seems to be busy. While the best barbershops are booked weeks out, at Assembly, this is not a problem because of the online booking system. When clients review a shop while at home, they highly wish to be notified when they can get the appointment because it takes time. The place is ideal, and everyone is talking about it, which makes the booking an experience worthwhile.
