About this business

Spin's Barber Shop started in a Capitol Hill basement. My long-time friend and neighbor, Matt Johnson, bought our first pair of scissors just before LL Cool J's second album dropped. Having our haircuts was fantastic because we needed an excellent hairstylist. Hence, we decided to do it together. Our learning curve was quite high, and we made many mistakes. But you know what? Our learning experience helped us improve our skills and gain confidence. It didn't take long before my phone started ringing off the hook. People were offering me massive discounts just to give them a haircut. It was an awesome gamble. It wasn't long before we needed a second pair of scissors. My customers and I enjoyed some intense ping-pong games between haircuts. I took my scissors with me when I left for school and worked on "building the brand," which is code for "making friends." I earned my Master’s Degree at the School of Style and Social Activity, thanks to Travers. I was honestly the wealthiest man in Bellingham. After my BA degree, I spent the summer back in the basement cutting hair. In the fall, I decided to enroll at Seattle Central Community College's barber school. In July of 1995, almost a year after my BA, the state of Washington made me a barber. A humorous human-interest reporter from the Seattle Times asked me why I wanted to become a barber.
