About this business

Established in Seattle, Feathered Friends is a business that produces handcrafted sleeping bags and down bedding. They provide outdoor clothing and accessories for hiking, backpacking, mountaineering and other outdoor sports. The company was started in 1972 by Peter and Carol Hickner when they relocated to the area and sought to make outdoor equipment they couldn't afford or find. Carol and Peter started their legendary company in their basement and honed their skills with an industrial sewing machine Union Special(r), their design eye and their patience to pay attention to every small part. The second generation of the Hickner family has continued this legacy of quality and handcraftsmanship in their two factories, located in SoDo, a Seattle neighborhood. The factories are steps away from the retail shop, with less than an hour drive to the North Cascade Mountains that inspires and tests Feathered Friends' products.
