Integrative Medical Weight Management

The year was 2005 chronic obesity, when a weight management specialist was born. I had no idea that there was anything else I would have considered doing, even after years of nursing. The speciality found me that day, the first time I encountered a patient seeking weight management help. I found the patients had a lot to gain from science-based management of obesity. I watched as my patients became healthier when I put it into practice. When they lived fuller lives, I felt happier. That the time I decided to become a nurse practitioner for the rest of my life. I also noticed that not enough obese patients were getting their annual health screenings. They also didn’t have other physicians treating health problems that were more serious. They shared how they felt shamed and blamed by doctors, which made them shy away from appointments. After that, I realized I needed to go upstream. For me to improve obese people’s lives and health, doctors should know the science needed to manage obesity and respectful relationship creation. My journey began with leadership, mentoring, and writing or speaking.
