About this business

I attempted to sell my first artworks for a living in 2004. I chose to register for the St. Albert Farmers Market one summer so that I could test my capabilities. My father supported me since before the beginning. This 14-year-old artist's entrepreneurial initiative would not have been possible without him. He signed me up for the exhibit, organized the logistics, and built my display box, bought the tables and chairs that I drew and bought my tent. The first thing I sold was my wooden boxes with paintings on them. Kay Pop Art Studio was born on this occasion as a part-time venture before I quit my job in April 2014. It has been a rewarding journey to showcase new works throughout the year. As a self-taught painter, painting full-time was an extraordinary opportunity that I received. I remember when I was two years old, I was always creating something. Before I made it a career, I spent my life producing and drawing. My family moved a lot. This meant that we spent a lot of time in the family car. My mom always recalls I could spend hours drawing. We used to to town after town, and Ottawa and Kingston were places we lived the longest. My room was filled with my craft and paper art. I also remember in grade 2, the teacher used to select me to draw on the board. As a child, I developed a love for films and books. This was because Uptown Video was my second home when I was seven years old. My parents bought the local cinema, and I would visit Uptown Video every day after school. My pop culture art was greatly influenced by the books and films I read and watched.
