ABOUT   Services Excellence Summary

MAWA Mentorship is an intersectional feminist visual arts theory, education, and criticism approach. This artist-run center, founded in 1984, offers a forum for critical discourse and education to empower and advance the creative and intellectual development of women who work in visual arts. Presently, MAWA addresses all kinds of discrimination against women, including non-binary and transgender individuals and Two-Spirit persons, in all its programs. MAWA's core activity is Mentorship, which forms the foundation of its training. A Mentorship can be two to 12 months long, may be media or theme-specific, and ends with an exhibition. It is a transformative education experience, a way to share experience, connections, and help, advance careers, and create a vibrant, multigenerational community of artists. MAWA welcomes applications from women artists and non-binary people of all levels, with or without a mentor, throughout the year (MAWA Mentorship, n.d.). MAWA's residency programmes offer women and non-binary artists of any experience level the chance to create and research in the MAWA work/live apartment. Winnipeg artists can visit international artistic opportunities with three residency programmes, which are also open to...(MAWA Residencies, n.d.). MAWA offers a varied and comprehensive visual arts programme accessible to all genders. Arts talks and workshops with artists from all over the world, courses on traditional Indigenous and global arts, professional practise workshops, theoretical speeches, critical writing opportunities, studio visits, critiques, and photography are all available.
