Since 1983, Needham Early Learning Centre serves Halifax and the surrounding communities. We have been a Not for Profit Organization since April 1999. Our Board of Directors has governed us. The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development has granted us full licensure to provide quality child care for children from the ages of eighteen months to twelve years. To ensure that our center meets all requirements, we strictly follow the Early Learning and Childcare Act of Nova Scotia. We provide play opportunities that promote well-being and discovery, invention, communication, and language, as well as a personal and civic responsibility. The high-quality Early Learning Program promotes healthy development and inclusion in an inclusive, safe environment. Halifax Early Childhood School was established in 1959 by a small group of parents who wanted to provide enriched preschool programs for their children. HECS is Halifax's oldest preschool. Halifax Early Childhood School (Non-Profit Organization) is dedicated to creating a safe and nurturing learning environment for children. HECS is managed and guided by a Coordinator Director. All children and parents at HECS can be involved in the community. There are two parent-teacher meetings throughout the year that allow for discussion about individual students' development. The Annual General Meeting takes place in September, and the Parent Committee meets twice per year. Every Friday, a summary of HECS Highlights, including stories, photos, and lyrics, is sent out to families. Our licensed location is under Early Childhood Development Services. We also have the Early Years Branch. Department of Education and Early Childhood Development. Our teachers have either an Early Childhood Education or a Bachelor of Education degree.
