About this business

The 14 Bells Fine Art Gallery is located in the Historic Hydrostone Market at 5523 Young St., near Fort Needham Park. The gallery showcases contemporary Canadian artists, and the quality of art is excellent, smart, and engaging. Most of the gallery artists are from Nova Scotia, but others come from across Canada. Each piece of art differs in subject matter and size on the walls. Cheryl Bell, a North End Halifax native, is the owner of the gallery. She and her husband Ian Thompson enjoy living in Hydrostone, Halifax, as it is a place to settle happily between their respective families in Ontario and Newfoundland. Cheryl has nearly two decades of experience in the high-end retail sector. While her career began with the McCaffery/Pelham Family in Banff, working at Canada House Gallery, Cheryl developed a love and respect for the diversity and quality of Canadian art. One of the gallery Directors, Barbara Pelham, had the privilege of working with Cheryl during many years during which the gallery grew and established a reputation for quality and service while expanding internationally. Cheryl's early emphasis on professionalism and customer service has served her well in subsequent roles. Cheryl moved to Nova Scotia in 2006. She spent a few years selling furniture and then cars. In 2017, she decided to take the plunge and opened 14 Bells. Cheryl has visited several galleries in the past. Her observation was that Halifax has many talented artists and a cultural foundation to support their work but has a lack of galleries. 14 Bells is committed to showcasing Canadian art for both locals and visitors.
