Royal Canadian Academy Of Arts (RCA) The Royal Canadian Academy of Arts (RCA) was founded by the Governor General of Canada, the 9th Duke of Argyll, John Campbell, in 1880, alongside the National Gallery of Canada, making it one of Canada's longest-running artist-run organizations. Painter Lucius R. O'Brien and architect/painter Napoleon Bourassa were among the first members. Marcel Barbeau and Ghitta Ciserman-Roth, ceramicist Erica Deichman Gregg, silversmith Lois Etherington Betteridge, illustrators Lynne Cohen and Samuel Tata, and more prestigious Academicians have since followed them. The RCA is dedicated to achieving a broad range of membership and artistic disciplines. RCA includes more than 650 professionals from the visual arts, design, and fine crafts. RCA includes architects, landscape designers, and painters and printmakers, as well as photographers, and designers who create books, textiles and fashion, graphic designers, and interior designers.
