IBU Toronto was established to create a Canadian independent university with a focus on the success and learning goals of students. We are a next-generation university, and this curriculum is future-oriented. Our goal is to be the best university in the world because academic excellence takes us to the next level. What is this university? This vision was achieved by a partnership of businesspeople and academics. When they met in 2015, they set out to build a better academic institution. Through this program, they wanted to provide an education that meets the needs of students seeking a meaningful future. This is an interdisciplinary approach to a university that is relevant to businesses in Canada and worldwide. How was the university established? To ensure the university would be successful, the group consulted with businesspeople and education professionals. With input from these experts, the group created ideas for the new university's curriculum, ethos, and infrastructure. In 2019, I will graduate from the new university. Which organizations approved our proposals? The PEQAB, or Postsecondary Education Quality Assessment Board of Ontario, approved the new university’s application as well as its proposal. On December 4, 2020, the Minister of Colleges and Universities in Ontario gave his approval, and IBU was founded. This is the first independent university based in Ontario. What is happening with the founding group? The school's launch is now the focus of the founding members. By September 2021, programs will be ready to go. We are busy planning additional undergraduate and graduate programs to make this university the best in the world.
