Alta Washburn started American Indian College in 1957. She was a missionary who saw the need for educating Native Americans in church ministry. AIC added a bachelor's degree and a business associate degree to its offerings. In 2007, AIC partnered with Southwestern Assemblies of God University, Waxahachie (Texas) to create SAGU AIC.
SAGU AIC was the only Christian campus in the country created specifically for Native American students. AIC's leadership, faculty, and staff have a shared commitment to empowering the next generation. SAGU AIC aims to support each student's academic, spiritual, and professional growth.
