We grew up in Scranton, a working-class city. I've always been moved by the work I saw in the Catholic Church I attended as a child. I was particularly impressed by the paintings and anatomy of the saints and Jesus. My work is about the human condition and physical beauty and the sacred. I paint in oil, but I also love to draw. I am inspired by my neighbors and the surrounding landscape. I have had solo shows in the Southwest, and my artwork has received awards. I live in Tucson, Arizona and am a full-time artist. My work reflects my belief in classical humanism. I paint large oils, beginning with detailed sketches until the final image is apparent to me. My compositions and brushwork enhance the concept. In expressing my “take” on human nature as I see it, I emphasize what is shared and correct. My subjects are usually engaged in tasks or activities that I believe represent an elemental act or need. My desire to understand and create beauty is evident in my art, which illuminates the reality of existence.
