In college, I realized that architectural design is more than just building structures—it's about developing a concept and making it alluring. Design is the perfect marriage of function and form, so the end product functions and looks good. My father, a merchant seaman for over 50 years, taught me this art. He taught me the monkey fist as he learned it at sea. This knot was made from the same principles that I used in my building designs: raw materials joined together with ingenuity to make something beautiful and functional. So, on a budget, I bought some steel balls and paracord. After a bit of web design and some witty wordplay, a part-time eBay gig became Monkey Knuts.
