About this business
Founded in 1945, San Diego Civic Youth Ballet is Balboa Park's resident school for ballet. It provides high-quality training throughout the year in the Casa del Prado Studios. The ballet school offers three productions every year at the Casa del Prado Theater. It does a complete ballet in the spring, Fairy Tales in the Park in the summer, which raises funds for the Scholarship program, and the customary holiday show The Nutcracker. SDCYB also hosts an annual spring showcase and its SDCYB Performance Ensemble, which comprises dancers of high caliber, participates in special occasions around its community. Via a lively Outreach Program, SDCYB now offers ballet instruction to over 600 public school students. This has been made possible by the investments in staff and infrastructure in recent years. Each summer, the school also provides camps and intensives that prioritize creativity and technical capability. Students can discover various dance styles, collaborate with guest teachers from all over the United States, and create their dance routines. This program has been a considerable success thanks to the commitment to attracting top talent to San Diego. The ballet school also has a "Ballerina Buddies' program that pairs young dancers with older students who act as their mentors. They also provide specific performances for school groups and scout troops, enriching their lives through culture
