Craftsman & Apprentice

The Shop Model We have over 20 years of experience as artists, craftspeople, and educators. Our work is divided into four areas: woodworking, fiber arts, and creative build-play. These can intersect, but they are not rigid, despite their conventions. Our work is always grounded in handcraft, and we have twelve functional habits, which have been synthesized into The Shop Model. We developed The Shop Model through community and critical pedagogy, as well as folk schools. We aim to deliver a multidimensional and fulfilling learning experience. We value safe and trusting relationships, which are essential to learning and teaching. We aim to teach children the practical skills to use their hands and think creatively. Our makers' creations can be used by children as toys, decorations, learning tools, and everyday objects. Our values We prioritize ensuring that shop kids have access to programming that respects and honors them, in addition to financial equity. Our teachers must understand and respect the profound complexity of children's neurodiversity, culture, language, and gender differences. Our team members' programming skills do not include crafting, but all children are capable of making things. We strive to love and respect every child so that they adapt and innovate.
