About this business

Four local music teachers in Independence, rounding out into a singular vision before ultimately becoming Music/Arts Institute. After the Independence school district sold an elementary school, the institute was able to move into the building and make Music/Arts a reality six years later. The original four teachers and their ideas when the first “Music/Arts Institute” workshops began were as follows... Despite some trepidation, Music/Arts managed to survive its initial challenges and expand its offering from piano and voice instructors to include experts in classical guitar, brass, winds and percussion. Later, as the school’s reputation grew, the study of Music/Arts –the institution became a premiere training center for musicians that was respected by the whole community- included other ensemble offerings like the Children’s Choir and Ethnic Drum Ensemble (Judy, 2008). Music/Arts Institute succeeded because faculty members shared a commitment to the study of their art that made it a part of their personal lives. All teachers were members of the Study Group (Will, 2020). Music/Arts Institute grew to include a host of other ensembles and was recognized through the faculty for its outstanding reputation (2021). Music/Arts is a leader in arts education in the region. At MAI, a study is more than a weekly lesson, and students can play an active role in performances, masterclasses, ensembles, and recitals (Bonita, 2008).
