Paula David started the Big Muddy Dance Company in 2010 after dancing with Hubbard Street Dance Chicago. The 9-dancer company, based in St. Louis, performed pieces donated to them in country clubs and living rooms to build an audience. After developing a limited repertoire, the troupe premiered its first full-length production at the Touhill Center for Performing Arts Lee Theater on June 11, 2011, receiving a standing ovation. Since then, Big Muddy has doubled its membership, built an audience large enough to support three productions each year, established a class and outreach program that works, and launched a tour of the Midwest/Southern Region. Three organizations program the shows: The Big Muddy Dance Company (which will make all the productions and also perform for other nonprofits), our adult class and pre-professional training education program, and Senior Embrace (a program that reaches out to seniors).
