The company is founded by Christine Iksic, who shares a personal story of boomeranging back to her hometown of Pittsburgh with fellow Pittsburghers. Iksic was born and raised in Pittsburgh. 3 Rivers Outdoor Co. CEO Christine Iksic is a true Yinzer flung across the world and back. Raised in the suburbs of Pittsburgh, she studied aerial mapping in New Zealand and traveled around the world before returning home. She discovered a deep love for water, adventure, backpacking, and travel. She moved back to the Pittsburgh region in 2009 to learn whitewater paddling. A year later, she discovered that Pittsburgh was a hub for backpacking, hiking, and camping. Even so, she found it hard to connect with other outdoor enthusiasts who shared her passion and get quality gear. So, she decided to start a store in Pittsburgh where fellow Pittsburghers could share their passion and find everything they need to GET OUT.
