Reliable Studio Profile - Jay Long Jay Long was born in 1969 in Houston, Texas, where he spent his youth. Despite growing up in a turbulent environment, Jay learnt invaluable life lessons as a young man coming of age among the remnants of the early eighties punk music scene. This includes the impeccable skill of unscrewing the screen at the end of a faucet to increase water flow. Jay also acquired some rather useful knowledge about buying liquor. This included the realization that holding a 12-pack by its cardboard handle, as opposed to clutching it like a football packed with eggs, will significantly increase your success rate in unfunded purchases. Armed with a G.E.D., Jay knew his journey was far from over. Jay eventually discovered his passion for art at the age of eighteen. After earning a G.E.D. and sharpening pencil number 2, Jay made the pivotal decision to enroll at Austin Community College as an Art major. After completing the 2-year program, Jay moved to Los Angeles in search of greener pastures. In Hollywood, Jay landed his first big break in the movie-making industry as a prop maker and background artist. Jay’s career in TV and film took off, but a gradual disillusionment with the movie-making industry forced him to take a much-needed break at the Santa Cruz Mountains near Monterrey Bay. In a secluded redwood shack, Jay found solace. This is where Jay discovered his signature painting methods. This was the beginning of Jay’s journey as an independent Fine Artist. It is quite astonishing how easily one can find beauty in a single moment. Jay is now based in his studio in Austin, Texas, where he creates iconic pieces. He is very committed to his work and is often found painting and creating in his studio.
