Founded in 1913 as Texas State School of Mines and Metallurgy, the College of Engineering at The University of Texas at El Paso has emerged as a significant source of Hispanic engineering alumni. The College of Engineering's success is based on student research and technology. Highly trained graduates are routinely recruited by leading industry companies. Kenith E. Meissner II (Dean of the College of Engineering) manages over 120 faculty members and staff. The college houses seven departments, fifteen labs, and five research centers. Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Industrial, Manufacturing & Systems Engineering, Engineering Education and Leadership, and Metallurgical, Materials and Biomedical Engineering are all available academic departments. Engineering perception must be challenged in an ever-evolving and changing world. It is the Dean's role to prioritize and develop resources that support the College's goals.
