In 1895, the AddRan relocated to Waco, Texas. A multitude of traditions was established. In 1896, football emerged, and women's intercollegiate athletics began. The Horned Frog was the first school yearbook, and it was named after a tiny but mighty lizard, adopted as the school mascot. The school colors were purple, in honor of royalty, and white, chosen by students to promote fairness. In 1902, Texas Christian University was established.
Throughout the 20th Century, TCU would grow in a symbiotic relationship of growth and community with our town. In our youth, the 21st Century will see cultural and physical advancements to the university at a previously unprecedented scale. We have constructed a campus that respects our past and looks forward with foresight, strategic thinking, and philanthropy. The Horned Frog community currently represents over 11,000 students, who are striving for the same aims as our ancestors, and also has a global network of almost 90,000. TCU is a member of an ongoing arrangement with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), a college in the Christian tradition with Baptist and Presbyterian roots. The Disciples' vision statement calls for “true community and deep Christian spirituality” and “a passion for justice.” The ongoing collaboration promotes educational principles that esteem scholarship, intellect, and rational inquiry while acknowledging the religious aspects of every individual.
