Since its inception in 2003, Ada Gallery displays emerging and middle-career artists working in all media. Greg Henry is an artist who shifts effortlessly between sculpture and painting. Born in Guyana, his work tells many stories of the experience living there. He uses animals and landscapes as symbols of spirituality, and they reflect their interconnectedness with the universe and the self. His keen interest in life and death in the environment around him has always been at the heart of his work. To address these themes, Greg Henry began incorporating everyday objects from Guyanese culture, such as pots, pans, and chickens. Objects like these are icons that tell a tale of how the culture works and how it affects the life cycle and its environment. He has also explored cultural icons, especially fables in South American, African, and Guyanese culture. According to Henry, “objects are juxtaposed in order to portray different aspects of life."
