Alma's Gallery & Shop

Alma's Gallery & Shop is a Richmond, VA-based artist-run company. Alma's carries handcrafted, small-batch production lines and unique museum-quality items. Sarah, Spencer, and Alma are this business, and they launched this webshop and brick-and-mortar in 2021. In 2005, they met at VCUarts graduate program, fell in love, and joined Richmond's vibrant and varied arts community. Alma's was established to showcase Contemporary Craft with a concentration on this unique locality and its artists. Alma, Sarah's grandmother, made her dinner rolls. Sarah's mother did not believe in measuring and used her hands to make the dough. Sarah was inspired by this method and by learning how to bake bread, a craft tradition. She continued the process until she had muscle memory and an understanding of the material. Her grandmother's dinner rolls were nearly magical, like any well-crafted object. It was an act of joy, and it gave you sustenance; it was both beautiful and functional. At Alma, we seek to reflect the spectrum of Contemporary Craft Practices, from historical to contemporary, through our quarterly exhibits and rotating inventory. We sometimes carry small-batch or micro-batch production. This enterprise is pleased to partner with highly-respected regional artists and national and international Contemporary crafts.
