I grew up in a tiny coastal town in eastern North Carolina, where we were always encouraged to explore creative activities. My friends and I found them quickly. Painting classes introduced me to art. These classes soon became a way of expanding my knowledge and understanding of the world. As the years passed, my personal and professional interests grew closer together. I pursued my career and educational goals in the arts. My coursework included studies in advertising, studio arts, art management, and decorative painting. As my daughters grew older, I had more time to devote to painting. Classes and workshops I attend enhance my artistic journey by providing new ideas and experiences. They also let me experiment and learn new techniques. As an artist, I work to keep an open mind. It is vital to leave your comfort zone. I believe in the value of being vulnerable. It is an amazing experience to get lost in a painting and lose track of time. My preferred painting style is Colorist, as I am predominantly attracted to texture and color. My work is usually inspired by color. But I find inspiration in nature, people, photos, emotions, and experiences. My recent work is more abstract, with floral and botanical influences. Oil is my preferred medium, but I use an assortment of mixed media techniques, such as oil sticks, acrylic paint, spray paint, and resin, to create texture, depth, and layers.
