About this business

The Greg Kucera Gallery, founded in 1983, encompasses 6,500 square feet. Northwest artists' paintings, prints, and sculptures are displayed at the gallery. The gallery began by showcasing a small collection of Northwest artists, including Alden Mason, Gene Gentry McMahon, Mark Calderon, and Michael Ehle. Jody Isaacson and Ross Palmer Beecher later joined, with Ed Wicklander included. Roger Shimomura, a Seattle-based artist whose career began in the 1960s, was the gallery's first established artist. The gallery later exhibited prints and works on paper by Robert Motherwell and Helen Frankenthaler, as well as Jim Dine, Richard Diebenkorn, and Jim Dine. Artist prints made for Universal Limited Art Editions (ULAE) were also displayed, including those of Jasper Johns (Robert Rauschenberg), Terry Winters, and Elizabeth Murray. Gallery exhibitions often juxtaposed emerging regional artists with New York artists like Cheryl Laemmle and Darren Waterston. Other exhibitions paid tribute to internationally renowned artists like Roy Lichtenstein and Mimmo Paladino. My goal was to provide a space for printmaking in the broader context of drawings or paintings by the same artists. New editions were created by world-renowned print shops such as PACE Editions and Crown Point Press.
