Bearclaw Gallery Celebrates 43 Years. In 2018, the Canadian company celebrated its 43rd anniversary. It specializes in First Nations, Metis, and Inuit artists. Aboriginal art in the early 1970s was slow to gain a footing in the art market of Canada. The gallery began promoting the Woodlands School of Art pioneer names like Norval Morrisseau, Roy Thomas, and the Kakegamic Family. Piggybacking on its visibility, the gallery saw success with the works of Benjamen, Chee-Chee, Eddie Cobiness Jackson Beardy, etc. (Bearclaw Gallery, n.d.) Bearclaw Gallery, 40 years of Indigenous Art. As a result of starting in the early 1970s, Bearclaw has managed to maintain a strong clientele because of establishing strong relationships with Indigenous Artists from Canada representing their First Nations artists, Metis, and Inuit artists both in Canada and internationally (Bearclaw Gallery, n.d.)
