Vinegar champions artists. Vinegar’s budget and organizational structure opens up a conversation on value, art, economy, and labor. The arts are underfunded and artists often receive inadequate compensation for their efforts. Artists often have to sacrifice their creativity in order for them to live or vice versa. This is despite most urban renewal and development efforts promoting the arts as a source of economic growth. Vinegar believes in the importance of supporting artists so they can reach their potential and pursue their vision. We offer this support by paying artists fairly for their work, and providing them with other services and resources to help their career. Our practices are meant to be an example that other businesses and organizations can follow, which in turn will lead to a progressive improvement of the working and pay conditions for Birmingham artists and others. Scott Miller Projects is opening its doors on June 11th, 2021. The gallery can be found at 2212 Morris Avenue Suite 130 in the center plaza of the recently renovated Mercantile on Morris Building. Morris Avenue, which was close to the railroad at the time, became one of Birmingham's first wholesale trading districts. Morris Avenue was named after Josiah Morris who founded the Elyton Land Company, and one of Birmingham's original founding shareholders. The Mercantile at Morris will be a popular destination for visitors with its historic cobblestone pavers, including The Alabama Peanut Co. Scott Miller, a professional artist for over 30 years, has done everything from collecting his own art to organizing art-related travels for students and collectors to placing works of art in various collections across the US, Canada, and Europe. Since he was a child, art has always been his love and passion. Scott has established connections with galleries, artists, curators, and collectors all around the globe. It is now time to move on.

Since over ten year, I have been painting honeybears. The first painting I made was for my father, who inspired me to become an artist. He also encouraged me to attend art school. Honeybears remind me of a time when I ate dinner with my family and the bear had to be there before the blessing. We would spread honey over the bread that we had eaten for dinner and have it as dessert. After I showed my honeybears to the public at my very first art fair, I discovered that many people felt a similar connection and continued painting these silly bears. When I first started out, I displayed my artwork in a realty-open house that was being held inside a home they were selling. This was my first small show after graduating from college, and I'm not sure if I made any sales. My paintings were a mess and I did not know what to do. One artist looked at all my random paintings, including landscapes, portraits and honeybears. She told me I should become the "honeybear lady". I was still allowed to paint what I liked, but I had to push honeybears to make them my focus. For the next couple of years, I worked hard to become that "honeybear lady" and it really helped me get out my work and let people know about who I was. It was the most helpful tip I have ever received.

Her creativity was always there, but she struggled with finding her own medium. She used her creativity to help solve corporate problems for almost two decades. After attending a Zentangle workshop in Atlanta, she received a Zentangle Kit from her mother-in law. This opened Pandora's Box of Creativity. In October 2011, she became a Certified Zentangle teacher and in January 2012, quit her job to teach Zentangle. She opened Tangled Stones Studio, in March 2012 in Hoover's historic Bluff Park, Alabama. She wanted to share her passion for creativity with others through classes like Zentangle (r), Art Journaling, Book Making, etc., as well as sell products that she had created - such as pottery, handmade book, encaustic painting, and so on. And more! Custom orders are also accepted for pottery, bridal and wedding invitations as well.
