Virginia Auto Service is conveniently situated at the corner of Virginia and 7th Street. This store has been in the same place for more than 25 years. When the official facts all line up like a treasure map, I feel the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end, almost like I am visiting the site for the first time. It was here that a World War II vet opened up an auto repair store. This old corner was full of his energy fixing and repairing Phoenix cars for more than 25 years. But it was not meant to be like that. The old man sold the store, which was later sold several times between the 80’s and early 90’s, leaving it abandoned and crumbling down for 20 years. Matt Allen, a Virginia-raised young mechanic, had made Phoenix his home and was looking for his toolkit for a while. The man, who had learned the trade in Virginia, felt a familiar sense of satisfaction whenever he fixed a car, and he wanted to share that joy with others. When he saw an old, abandoned shop at the corner of Virginia and 7th Street in Phoenix, he realized it was time to start living the dream of opening his repair shop. Virginia Auto Service was born.
