Carter John Michael is a native of Chicago and began his drawing journey alongside his father E. L. Carter, who inspired his passion for the art. Upon high school graduation, he enrolled at the American Academy of Art, Chicago to pursue his passion for drawing. In 1970, Carter was admitted to the Art Center College of Design, Los Angeles, where he learned from renowned artists like Reynolds Brown and Harry Carmean. He also interacted with Lorser Fletzelson and the classical drawing and painting schools. Carter graduated with a B.F.A. in 1972. His artwork has been showcased in various art galleries in the United States. Carter enjoys painting street scenes, landscapes, and figurative human pieces. During his travels nationally and internationally, he primarily searches for compelling images to paint. Carter has taught several art workshops across the U.S. since 1990, including the Scottsdale Artist School, Dallas Arts League, Cincinnati Arts Club, etc. His intense training in classical drawing and painting enables him to pass on his technical skills. Carter has received top honors from the Oil Painters of America, a Master Signature Member. He has also served on the organization’s board of directors.
