Hansen Summer Institute on Leadership and International Cooperation

Hansen Leadership Institute (HLI) HLI is an international initiative that provides education on the psychology, ethics, and principles of visionary, ethical, and visionary leadership. The Hansen Fellows are also introduced to effective communication, public speaking, and facilitation. Leadership-related gender challenges have become a priority for us over the past few years. The three-week intensive program forms a strong virtual community where the alumni can support and interact with each other to build communities and develop peace projects. In many cases, Mediation & Conflict Resolution is a vital area of conflict resolution. To create peace, it is important to understand and use subtle interpersonal skills. HLI gives practical exercises in the area of interpersonal relationships and the finest instruction. The program builds confidence and skills to work respectfully across political and cultural boundaries, with a view to reconciliation and restorative justice. Human Rights are at the heart of many times conflict resolution. HLI Fellows will also receive specialized instruction from a human rights activist who is an expert in the field. This person attends the session and presents a 2- afternoon workshop on human rights. International Cooperation The most significant value of HLI is the bond of friendship and solidarity that it creates among concerned people from numerous geographical areas and fields. The fellowship creates lifelong friends who develop new synergies to work together across borders culturally by serving, learning, educating, and developing these kinds of friendships in their home communities. As a result of the three-week program and annual experiment in international cooperation, people from other countries that have recently been at war have become friends. Participants are always put in the most uncomfortable room-sharing situations. The post-program opposite is always smiling faces and a "warm circle" where participants agree on the necessity of finding a way to peacefully live and coexist as fellow citizens.
