Social Studio teaches people how to look at people as art. Here you can explore, interact, share, grow, learn, empower, and expand! Social Studio allows you to discover for yourself what excellence in art means. You'll build confidence, community, connection, compassion, and collaboration while creating art. Social Studio, an art academy, is a place where community members create, in turn creating community. We provide our members with the materials and time they need to develop as artists. Art excellence is a way to enhance empathy. Empathy is encouraged by art excellence. Empathy promotes better self-understanding and understanding of others. Every experience offers multiple entry points, so each artist can solve creative problems and take risks. The way in which we communicate with each other, and ourselves, is important to us. Reflective practices help us learn from our teacher, materials, fellow students, and ourselves. We develop a discipline to see, without judging. We give helpful feedback on individual development.

Sanzi Kermes records the games she's played Scrabble, screens prints the pattern at the end, and then writes a senryu, a non-nature haiku, using the words. The screen prints, created by an ex-cartographer and reminiscent of Land Ordinance 1785's Rectangular Survey System, are inspired by words played. Sanzi Kermes records the games she's played Scrabble, screens prints the pattern at the end, and then writes a senryu, a non-nature haiku, using the words. The screen prints, created by an ex-cartographer and reminiscent of Land Ordinance 1785's Rectangular Survey System, are inspired by words played. Sanzi earned a double major in Geography & Advertising in 1982 at Syracuse University. She left her corporate job at 35 and her life changed dramatically over the following decade: she was widowed at 43 and gave birth at 45 to her first daughter. At 48, she received her Masters of Contemporary Fine Art from Leeds Beckett University in Leeds, UK. She lives with her daughter in Baltimore. Sanzi Kermes started working with textiles a few years ago. Sanzi Kermes' exploration of material led her to revive wedding gowns that had been stowed away in closets or attics. The artist has received many gowns directly from the families of the brides, or the brides. This installation explores the importance of wedding rituals within our culture through the story-telling aspect.
