While many appreciate the straightforward process and supportive approach, a few have noted difficulties reaching the office after initial consultations.
I would not recommend this law firm based on my experience. I retained the firm (Lawyer, Julia Rideg) to assist with an employment settlement matter and expected to pay reasonable fees for meaningful legal work. However, I was surprised by the number of charges for basic communications, including sh…
Duncan was amazing to deal with. He was straightforward and honest and I really felt he has my best interests at heart. He was extremely transparent and I experienced complete understanding when we had concluded our initial consultation. I would recommend him to anyone who needs legal assistance.
I am very impressed with the team at Bow River, especially Michael. His compassion and empathy while navigating what could be an extremely stressful situation, in addition to his expertise and pragmatic approach has eased my mind. I will absolutely reach out to Michael in the future if I need additi…
I am very pleased with the outcome of my case, everything was explained and even with my limited computer skills Halley and Livia navigated me thru this complicated process. I received a settlement that was fair. I had a unique situation with 15 years of service and a 11 month lay off in the middle…
Excellent legal advice. The Lawyer explained everything clearly and was straight with me about everything. Cyril was great, extremely helpful.
Unfortunately, I had been following Samfiru on podcasts, tried to book a consultation before it was too late, it took a few days to reply to me and I had to call the office and ask why I had not received a reply and once I did the booking was only in three to four weeks so I got a consultation with…

Severance in Canada has two layers, and this calculator shows both. The first is the statutory minimum under the Alberta Employment Standards Code: a fixed number of weeks of notice or pay in lieu, set by your length of service. It is the least your employer can legally give you, and it is often what the first offer is based on. The second is common-law reasonable notice, which is what a court would usually award a non-unionized employee without a valid termination clause. Courts set it from the Bardal factors: the character of your job, your length of service, your age, and how hard it will be to find similar work. The common-law figure includes the statutory amount rather than adding to it, and it rarely goes above 24 months.
General information about Alberta employment law, not legal advice, and the estimate is not a guarantee of any outcome. Unionized employees, dismissals for just cause, fixed-term contracts and valid termination clauses can change the answer. An employment lawyer can tell you how these rules apply to you.
